ABOUT THE RIDER’S CLOSET:

The Rider's Closet is a program started by Georgina Bloomberg in August 2006. The program aims to make riding clothes more accessible to therapeutic riding programs, pony clubs, intercollegiate riding programs and individual riders who are in need. The Rider's Closet accepts all lightly used riding gear then donates them to anyone who requests the items (U.S. only). All equestrian clothing and boots except helmets are accepted.

As The Rider’s Closet has grown over the past several years, so has Georgina’s equestrian career. Due to her expanded travel schedule, she wanted to move The Rider’s Closet from a home-based operation to a new location where it could operate on a continuous basis.

Pegasus Therapeutic Riding is a non-profit organization that provides equine-assisted activities to people with special needs, veterans and at-risk individuals. We run programs at four chapters in New York and Connecticut, including Pegasus Farm, our main equestrian center in Brewster, N.Y. Familiar with Pegasus' philanthropic mission and services, Georgina has partnered with us to bring The Rider's Closet to Pegasus Farm. A Pegasus staff person manages the program and oversees the volunteers who staff The Rider's Closet on a part-time basis.

REQUESTING CLOTHING:

Please read the following important information before completing a request form:

The Rider's Closet was created to help equestrians who need help acquiring riding apparel. We provide only equestrian-specific clothing; we do not provide "regular" street clothing.

The Rider’s Closet is staffed entirely by volunteers and managed by the Pegasus communications director. Due to high volume, it takes a minimum of two weeks to fill a request. Boots are always in demand, and ladies' tall boots in sizes 7-10 are by far the most commonly requested type.

We currently maintain a "backorder" list for boots and any other items we do not have at the time of the request. As new items are donated, we check the backorder list for matches and send them to the people who have been waiting the longest. Riders may remain on the backorder list for up to six months, after which they must resubmit their request if the items are still needed.

All items are shipped via UPS, free of charge. Due to the high cost of international shipping, we are only able to ship within the United States. To ensure clear communication, requests must be sent in writing by mail, email or fax. Requesters are welcome to call our voicemail number with any questions they may have, but we cannot take requests by phone. Our volunteers will respond to all requests and/or voicemails as soon as possible.

Please download and fill out the request form and send it to:
