Volunteer Clinic & Equine Agility Class - 7/10/10

07/10/2010 - 12:30pm
07/10/2010 - 2:00pm

This clinic is appropriate for both new and existing volunteers. An orientation for new volunteers will take place 1.5 hours prior to the start of this clinic. New volunteers will receive a separate notice about the orientation from our Volunteer Coordinator, Bill Prout.

The goal of the sidewalker/horse leader clinic is to make your role here more rewarding and allow us to maintain the high standards we strive for as a NARHA Premier Accredited Center.

NEW THIS YEAR: Depending on the size of the group attending the clinic, volunteers who participate will not only learn or review the classical method of leading a horse, they will also participate in an interactive Agility Class with one of the Pegasus horses. We have created a fun and challenging exercise to refine our leading skills. Go to our Pegasus News section to view a fun slide show of our staff taking our horses through the course for the first time!

The sidewalker clinic will go into every aspect of correct sidewalking methodology. We will explore the physical aspect of working with our riders, as well as perform emergency dismounts. The clinic also addresses how sidewalking relates to the behavioral aspects of our riders and rider/volunteer interaction.

The horse leader clinic will be a practical, hands-on workshop in which we will work directly with our horses, address specific problems and standardize the way we approach our horse-leading practices at Pegasus. You will be working with other volunteers under the direction of our instructor staff.

The clinic will take place in the Pegasus Farm covered outdoor arena. If you are an existing volunteer and wish to attend one of these clinics, please pre-register by contacting Instructor/Volunteer Coordinator Bill Prout at bprout@pegasustr.org or (845) 669-8235 x106.
